Art Analysis

 Hello everyone!

This is an art piece made in 2020 by Briar McElroy-Ruchti. It is called The Dark Side of the Moon

The three elements that stuck out to me the most were color, line, and shape. There are many colors and it makes this art piece vibrant. The colors have a neutral affect on my emotions.

The lines and shape of this art piece are really detailed. I feel like it took a lot of imagination and creativity to create this art. I read that rigged lines create a feeling of turmoil and anxiety (Art Factory). The rigged lines of the moon makes me think of those emotions. The eyes of both the moon and person make me feel what they are feeling. It is hard to describe, but it feels like life keeps going on and you feel stuck. It's sort of a sad feeling, but where you feel done with everything. I really like the sparkle details and the other small details that make this art piece beautiful. I also really like the shape of the smoke and the hair.

I would definitely own a copy of this art piece. I like how I can sort of relate to it. This print belongs to my friend, and I would be happy to buy some art work from the artist.

  1. Wow, at first glance I got a kind of chill, cool vibe. I saw that she was sitting on the moon smoking a joint or possibly a cigarette. But after reading your analysis, I can see what you mean by the hazy, rigid lines giving you a sense of anxiety. I looked at the woman again, and I saw a sadness to her as well.

  2. I love the simplicity that comes from this piece but I would have to say that the rigid lines make me think of grid paper or living inside of a box and these two seem to be them living outside of the boxes, however, the sadness that they have resonates a weird mood to me. It seems as if they are starting to expand but aren't liking where they're going and maybe it's just me, but I think it's coming from the cigarettes that they have. They may be living outside the norm, but they're encasing themselves in another box that's even harder to get out of.
